Windsor Heights Speed Cameras Set To Be Removed in April

WINDSOR HEIGHTS, Iowa - The Windsor Heights City Council approves the removal of its speed cameras on University Avenue.
The Windsor Heights Mayor Dave Burgess said, “The contract is over. It's been good for a long period of time... it has reduced speeding by well over 50 percent. As I've said before it works.”
The two cameras will be removed when the contract ends on April 21 st , until then tickets will continue to be issued.

Shooting Victim in Lu Verne Bank Robbery Identified, One Person in Custody

LU VERNE, Iowa - The Kossuth County Sherriff's office has identified the woman who was shot and killed during a bank robbery at Lu Verne Security State Bank on Wednesday as 43-year-old Jessica Weishaar.
Officials said Weishaar was an employee of Security State Bank.
Lu Verne resident Sheri Savage said the person who normally works at the bank on Wednesday was not there.
"The person who is normally at the bank today, she took a day off or something and someone from Algona took her place. I don't know what happened," Savage said.

Windsor Heights to Take Down University Camera in 2020

WINDSOR HEIGHTS, Iowa - The City of Windsor Heights says its controversial speeding camera will disappear next spring.
The Windsor Heights City Council voted on Monday to remove the automated traffic enforcement camera on University Avenue on April 21, 2020 when the contract with a camera vendor ends. The camera will continue to be used to catch speeders and issue citations until then.

Iowa State Student Makes History On Ames City Council

AMES, Iowa - Rachel Junck is a junior chemical engineering major at Iowa State University, and as of last night, a member of the Ames city council. At 20 years old, she is the youngest woman ever elected to office in state history.
Junck, a lifelong Ames resident was prompted to run for city council after seeing a lack of representation in her ward, which is mostly made up of students.
